This is going to be the start of a new weekly series of blogs titled ‘Sensational Sights and Stories: SMC’s Spectacular Travel Tales’ covering the go to travel spots in the UK. Including well known Biker Café’s, unmissable views and notorious roads that are for the brave hearted.
What a way to start! If you are familiar with Biker Café’s you know that it is the atmosphere that makes it or breaks it. Ace Café in London does not disappoint by any means, located: Ace Corner, North Circular Road, London, NW10 7UD it is exactly 163 miles from SMC Bikes. So, if you are in the mood for a small tour you would easily be able to do a round trip before the sun sets with plenty of time to stop for a full English and a cracking cuppa!
Established in 1938, the café originally catered to truckers and travelers but quickly built their name with avid motorcyclists. After some unfortunate demolishing relating to the 2nd World war, the café didn’t have a permanent residence until 1949 at the Heydays. Fast forward to 1969 when it unfortunately had to close its doors due to the expansion of the motorway network. “But what happened to its beloved customers?” I hear you ask on the verge of tears! In 1994 they decided to co-ordinate a yearly meet up at the original spot to mark the closing date of the Ace Café. This quickly turned into a massive event leading to a book and film being made which saw the Grand reopening of the Ace Café in 2001!!
After an absolutely roaring success in London, Ace Café decided to branch out opening their new café’s in Lahti Finland in 2011, Luzern Switzerland & Beijing China in 2015 and finally Barcelona and Orlando USA in 2017. Who knows what they will do next, but one thing will forever stand. They will always be known as the most notorious Biker Café worthy of a tour, whether that be a quick 163 miles to London or across the water to their sites in Switzerland or China!
